School Effectiveness Survey

Beginning April 16th through to May 18th, 2012, parents with children in the Halton District School Board are asked to participate in an on-line survey. This is the seventh year parents’ input has been gathered on this important topic. All parents received a backpack letter, signed by the Director inviting them to participate.

Surveys will also be completed by students, teachers and other school-based staff.

The School Effectiveness Surveys are web-based surveys. They have been extensively pilot-tested within Halton and have been analyzed for reliability and validity. Please be assured that no individual response can be identified and therefore all responses are considered anonymous. The data received through these surveys is key to providing us with important information for improving student learning for all our students.

The parent survey will be accessed through the Board’s website at http://checkbox.hdsb.ca/Survey.aspx?surveyid=1925 so parents can complete it wherever Internet access is available – home, work, the community or at their child’s school.

The School Effectiveness Survey will ask parents to provide feedback about issues related to school effectiveness. The results of these surveys provide important data used to shape system and school effectiveness planning for improving student learning, especially in the focus area of school community and culture. The important message to parents is that we value their input as an integral part of evaluating the effectiveness of schools.

Alton Village High School

Dear Parent/Guardian

I would like to invite you to an Information Meeting regarding the boundaries for the new Alton high school (SRA 101). The school is scheduled to open in Fall 2013.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, beginning at 7 p.m. at J.W. Boich Public School (2474 Sutton Drive, Burlington).

There are a number of schools that could be potentially impacted by this boundary review including MM Robinson HS, Robert Bateman HS, Nelson HS and Lester B. Pearson HS.

The purpose of the boundary review has been first and foremost about populating the new Alton high school.

The preferred option will be posted on the Board website along with the other 5 scenarios developed and considered. The purpose of the meeting on Tuesday is to share this preferred option and receive feedback from the public. The community will be asked to provide feedback on a form that we have generated. This will be available at the meeting, as well as on-line. We are asking parents/guardians to submit forms via email or to drop them off at JWSC. The deadline for submission is Friday, April 20th at noon.

Below is a link to the SRA 101 Web Page which we have been updating throughout this process.

http://www.hdsb.ca/aboutus/Planning/Reviews/Pages/AltonSRA101HS.aspx

To submit a question or concern to Board staff, send your email to plan@hdsb.ca

I look forward to seeing you at the meeting.

Sincerely,

Rob Eatough
Superintendent of Education
