MMR Updates Nov 30

News from the World of Business!  

Last week 10 students competed at the DECA business competition.  Of the ten students, 5 qualified to move on to Provincials in February.  Qualifiers were Ivan and Teodor M, Wilson B, Shaza N and Gillian T. Also, eight Grade 12 students attended the No Limits Conference in Toronto where they learned about the CPA profession.  Finally, Simrit R has been elected to the position of company President in her Junior Achievement Company Program for the Burlington Chapter. This is her 4th year attending JA and and she was Vice President of various departments every year.  Congratulations to all of these students!!!

Performance Tasks & Exams

Gearing up for Performance Tasks and Exams, if your child is demonstrating any signs of stress that they can’t manage, please contact the school for support.  The Final Evaluation/Exam Schedule will be posted next week.

15th Week Reports

You can expect these reports to be emailed home on December 13th for any student who is in jeopardy in a particular course(s).

MMR New Student Leadership Structure

New Student Leadership Structure @ MMR - United Student Body (USB)

All students attended an information assembly on October 30th to learn more about this new structure (that was created by our MMR students at a Leadership Retreat in October)---the United Student Body (USB).  A variety of positions were outlined and applications are due on Tuesday, November 6. Some positions will require campaigning and a student vote while other positions will be selected through interviews. Once the elected positions are filled, there will be an open call for any volunteers who would like to help with committees.  Information about positions can be found on our website HERE.  Timelines can be found HERE. Students must apply using their HDSB email account.   

Take Our Kids to Work Day - November 14th

Consent forms were due today.  (Nov 2) If your child has not yet submitted their consent form to their period 5 teacher, please ask them to bring it directly to Guidance as soon as possible.  An extra copy of the form can be found on the last page of the package found HERE.  Please contact Guidance with any concerns or questions.

Massive props to our Senior Boys Volleyball team on their semi-final win against Nelson High School.  

We are not surprised that Ms. Galay has won the  Phil Hedges Award as an exemplary guidance counsellor.

Hello M.M. Robinson Families!

Yesterday, in addition to our stellar academics it was a day full of community-building.  Students performed Karaoke during the Lunch period and later that night had a great time at the Halloween Dance.  Thank you to our student volunteers and teachers for making these events happen.

Take Our Kids to Work Day - November 14

All grade 9 students received a letter and information package regarding Take Our Kids to Work Day this week in their period 5 class.  This event will be held on Wednesday, November 14 and provides an opportunity for students to test drive a career of interest and/or job-shadow a parent, guardian or other trusted adult.  Consent forms (last page of the attached package) are due back to period 5 teachers no later than Friday, November 2.  Please contact Lisa Galay in Guidance (ext. 238) if you have any questions.

Strong Athletes

The Girls Basketball program has been under development and growth this year. Many of our senior players played up at the Varsity level last season and this year those seniors are dominating the pack leading the division 8-0. They enter playoffs next week undefeated in the regular season. The girls are playing in the Semi-Finals next Friday, November 2nd in our home gym at 3:30pm. Don’t miss an exciting opportunity to come see our Rams basketball program and cheer on our girls! Eyes and hearts set on the Halton Championship!

Spirit Wear

MMR Spirit Wear is available!  Check it out! Sales end November 8th.  Students can try on sizes at lunch in the Foyer.  MMR Clothing Store

Grade 9 & 10 French Program Trip

We are excited to present a ski trip for our Grade 9 & 10 French program students at MMR in February 2019.   Students will experience an amazing four day cultural trip while being immersed in a French-speaking environment and participating in fun winter activities. Students will ski or snowboard, go ice skating and snowshoeing on the wonderful trails of the Belle Neige ski resort. There is a full cultural program planned for the evenings to accompany the outdoor activities. Students can attend a meeting on Tuesday October 30th at the beginning of lunch in room 321 where they will receive more details.  We are looking forward to this great opportunity!

This is a reminder to grade 12 grads that grad photos will be starting Tuesday October 23rd.  If you still need to book an appointment remember to pick up your login information card in student services. Please remember to bring your $35.00 Portrait Session Fee with you to your appointment.
