Leadership & Community Pathways News:

Our mentoring leadership class and community pathways program students teamed up to complete a Random Act of Kindness.  Students handed out Roses to patrons in the Fortinos plaza reminding people to Stop and Smell the Roses.

DECA News:

5  MMR students recently competed at the Provincial Level of DECA.  They were: Wilson Becke, Ivan and Teodor Markovic, Shaza Najeeb, and Gillian Trasuk.

Drama Department:

Students are competing this year in the National Theatre School Drama Festival (previously known as the Sears Ontario Drama Festival). The submission this year is a play called Breaking Badly by Jonathan Rand. Imagine you could go to a breakup centre to get rid of a pestering significant other?

The preview night is Thursday, February 21st at 7pm in the LBP Community Theatre at MMR. Tickets are $5 at the door.

The competition night is Friday, March 1st at 7pm at Aldershot High School. Tickets are $12 at the door.

On Thursday February 14, 2019 Ms. Proteau will be starting a medical leave.  In her absence, Ms. Newcombe will be Acting Principal and we welcome Mr. Scott as a temporary Vice-Principal to support the administration team.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school.


Halton District School Board invites students, parents, staff and public to complete online Have Your Say survey

Opportunity to provide feedback from Feb. 1 to March 29, 2019

The Halton District School Board is inviting students, parents, staff and community members to participate in the online engagement survey: Have Your Say. Topics for feedback include learning opportunities, communication, involvement in schools, technology use, equitable and inclusive learning environments, and transportation.

The surveys are open for all groups from Feb. 1 to March 29, 2019. The information gathered from the survey will help the Board continue to create a positive learning environment to help shape school improvement and well-being plans. The survey will be available at www.HaveYourSayHDSB.ca, or via the Board's website atwww.hdsb.ca. The survey is available in six additional languages: Arabic, French, Hindi, Mandarin, Punjabi, and Urdu.

The Have Your Say survey will provide the Board with feedback regarding the goals and targets in the Halton District School Board’s Multi-Year Plan (2016-2020).

The Board will share a summary of the information collected with all stakeholders in June 2019. Infographics with highlights from the 2017-2018 survey are available at www.HaveYourSayHDSB.ca/SurveyResults. This data continues to support school and system improvement planning.


A few Reminders:

OFFICE:

Report cards were distributed to students in their period 1 classes today.  If your child does not have a period 1 class they can pick up their report cards in the main office.

GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT:

  • Your completed and signed Course Selection forms are due:  Monday, Feb 11th

  • Course Selection Resources can be found in the Google Classrooms, and on our website under the Student Services tab

Decisions about cancelled buses/school due to weather are shared by 6:30 a.m. via the Halton District School Board Twitter (@HaltonDSB) and Facebook (@HaltonDistrictSchoolBoard), and website hdsb.ca, the Halton Student Transportation Twitter (@haltonschoolbus) and website (haltonbus.ca), 905-335-3665, and TV/radio. During exam time, if schools are closed or buses are cancelled:

 all exams written that day will be written one day later than originally scheduled.  Therefore, if schools are closed tomorrow (Tuesday, January 29), or buses are cancelled tomorrow, all exams will then be written on Wednesday, January 30.

News from the World of Business!  

Last week 10 students competed at the DECA business competition.  Of the ten students, 5 qualified to move on to Provincials in February.  Qualifiers were Ivan and Teodor M, Wilson B, Shaza N and Gillian T. Also, eight Grade 12 students attended the No Limits Conference in Toronto where they learned about the CPA profession.  Finally, Simrit R has been elected to the position of company President in her Junior Achievement Company Program for the Burlington Chapter. This is her 4th year attending JA and and she was Vice President of various departments every year.  Congratulations to all of these students!!!

Performance Tasks & Exams

Gearing up for Performance Tasks and Exams, if your child is demonstrating any signs of stress that they can’t manage, please contact the school for support.  The Final Evaluation/Exam Schedule will be posted next week.

15th Week Reports

You can expect these reports to be emailed home on December 13th for any student who is in jeopardy in a particular course(s).

MMR New Student Leadership Structure

New Student Leadership Structure @ MMR - United Student Body (USB)

All students attended an information assembly on October 30th to learn more about this new structure (that was created by our MMR students at a Leadership Retreat in October)---the United Student Body (USB).  A variety of positions were outlined and applications are due on Tuesday, November 6. Some positions will require campaigning and a student vote while other positions will be selected through interviews. Once the elected positions are filled, there will be an open call for any volunteers who would like to help with committees.  Information about positions can be found on our website HERE.  Timelines can be found HERE. Students must apply using their HDSB email account.   


Take Our Kids to Work Day - November 14th

Massive props to our Senior Boys Volleyball team on their semi-final win against Nelson High School.  

We are not surprised that Ms. Galay has won the  Phil Hedges Award as an exemplary guidance counsellor.
