USB Leadership Retreat

On Monday a group of 32 students and 4 staff headed down to Adventureworks in Ancaster to spend Monday and Tuesday developing their leadership skills and helping plan out student events for the year. It was a great trip filled with great conversations, a lovely hike to Sherman Falls, Smores and more.

Effective September 2019, the HDSB Code of Conduct has been updated to prevent the possession of a vape or vaping paraphernalia on school property for those under the age of 19.

Lead by the Parks & Recreation Department the city is looking to create a Student Youth Council in an attempt to enhance student engagement and feedback on city projects!   


What?

  • High school students coming together for monthly meetings to discuss key themes regarding their community

  • Students will have an opportunity to listen to city staff presentations and provide feedback, ideas and comments

  • Students will be encouraged to bring information back to their school student body 

Why?

  • Increase student civic engagement

  • Give youth a voice

  • Increase youth capacity and feedback on city projects

  • Empower youth to get involved with city decisions 

Who?

  • High school students

  • Pre-registration is not required.

Hello MMR Families!

This week we have sent home various emails with lots of great information about how your child can get involved at MMR.  Hopefully it wasn’t information overload!!!

Typically, we send out 1 email message per week on Fridays.  You can expect The MMR Friday Update weekly. Feel free to connect with the school if you have any questions, concerns or needs.  We’re here to support your child!


Drama Info:

Students that are interested in getting involved with MMR Drama Extracurriculars are invited to attend the Drama Information Meeting on Tuesday, September 10th at 3pm in the L.B.P Community Theatre. There will be several leadership, tech, acting and directing roles this year!

Guidance Dept. Info:

Hello MMR Families - 

Our guidance department has been working to ensure that students have complete timetables.  We are happy to say that by today, most students have full timetables for both semesters. As a result, Monday September 9 will be the last day for course changes for semester one.  

We will continue to build timetables for students who have incomplete timetables.

"Choose  Your Own Adventure" Full School Field Trip

This annual MMR September tradition called the, Choose Your Own Adventure Field Trip, is an innovative event whereby students choose an experiential learning opportunity, based on their interest or passion!  


At MMR we know that the greatest student learning begins with student choice.  This initiative demonstrates the power of relationships and their impact to create a positive school culture!

MMR Yearbooks June 11

        Hello Rams, 

Due to popular demand, we have a 2nd print of the school yearbook underway. This is for the year 2018/2019 and will only be available via school cash.  https://hdsb.schoolcashonline.com/

Rambotics :

M.M. Robinson is preparing students for a new and innovative world. Our MM Rambotics Teachers and Mentors received an INSPIRE  award, June 5th, because they went above and beyond to support students in an area of high interest and high employment. These mentors work an additional 25-40 hours a week, directly with students, during the build season teaching, training and inspiring.  They show exemplary innovation, creativity, and motivation to help students problem solve and achieve monumental successes.

Gr. 9 Math EQAO:

Just a reminder that EQAO for our grade 9 math students will be writing onTuesday June 11 and Thursday June 13.

For both days June 11 and 13:

Grade 9 students who have a scheduled grade 9 math in period 1 or period 2 will all write starting at 8:25, once completed students will proceed to period 2 for their regular second period class.

Grade 9 students who have scheduled math in period 4 or period 5 will write EQAO at the start of period 4 and once completed will proceed to period 5 for their regular scheduled class.

All IEP students who require accommodations  will write EQAO on June 11 and 13 starting at 8:25. Mr. Trodd will be in contact with additional information about locations.


Ram Revue:

Next Friday, June 14th at 8:30am, MM Robinson staff and students will take a day to celebrate our school community.  Ram Revue is an LBP tradition that is continuing here at MMR, where we showcase our year of school wide successes, acknowledge student achievements and celebrate the many talents around the building.   Students and staff will be singing, dancing and even baton twirling! We know that our whole community would love to join us to witness the show, but due to space constraints we are limited to an audience of students only.  However, we will have a recording of the full show available after so friends and family can also share in celebrating the amazing things happening around our building. More details about this to come later.

PAR Update:

As part of ongoing communication regarding the implementation of the Burlington Secondary Program and Accommodation Review, please find the PAR Update #8 (May 2019).


Gr. 9 Math EQAO:

Athletics Banquet:

All athletes have the opportunity to attend this year’s athletic banquet on Wed. June 12th at 5:30pm. In order to reserve a spot for dinner athletes MUST pick up a ticket before June 5th. Athletic council members will be giving out tickets at lunch up until this date in the front foyer. Athletes who have missed this opportunity can pick up their ticket in the Phys. Ed office.


MMR Movie Night:

MMR is hosting a Movie Night on Tuesday, June 4th. Doors open at 6pm movies start at 6:30 pm; Pizza, popcorn and drinks will be available for purchase. $7/person or buy 4 tickets and get a free popcorn. Tickets can be purchased through School Cash Online or at the door. We will be showing 3 different movies at the same time. Choose to see 1  Now You See MeThe Greatest Showman, or Harry Potter. The money made from our movie night goes toward supporting Relay 4 Life. Can’t wait to see you there!

Today is the last day for teams to sign up for the Amazing Race competition.  Sign up your team (max 10 people) or sign up as an individual here.  If you have questions feel free to contact Krista Reid atreidkr@hdsb.ca.

Not interested in being on a team but still want to participate?  We are looking for volunteers to help run events. You will receive volunteer hours.  Sign up here


MMR Student Leadership:

MMR Student Leadership is seeking members for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year.  All students who want to advocate, be leaders and help make MMR the best it can be are encouraged to apply.  Students may sign up using the following link and their school login: MMR Student Leadership Application


Commencement: All hands on deck-we need music students to sign up to perform at this year’s graduation ceremony and earn volunteer hours. See Mr. Rocco if you can help out. June 6th.


Community Service Hours:

Grade 9 - 12 students can earn Community Service Hours for taking part in a the CCAH/Halton Regional Police Service Youth Leadership Workshop Series REGISTER TODAY (6 Community Service Hours for each event). Attend as many as you can.

·         Saturday June 22, 9019 from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm at Halton Regional Police Service Headquarters (free lunch and snacks provided)

Congrats:

Congratulations to Ivan, Teodor, Nathan, William, Linna, Gillian, Allison, Ian, Katie, Patrick, Rawan, and Stefanie for their outstanding performance at the Halton Math Contest Wednesday night.  

Ivan, Teodor and Nathan finished 11th/29 teams.  Allison, Katie and Stafanie finished 8th/32, competing against the top Math problem solvers in Halton.

MMR Movie Night:
