Hello MMR Families!

We'll be welcoming our Rams to semester 2 on Monday, February 3rd!

Report Card Distribution

On Friday February 7th semester 1 report cards will be distributed to students in their period 1 class. E-Learning report cards will be available in the main office. Students with a period 1 spare can pick up their Semester 1 report card in the main office also.

 

SEMESTER 2 TIMETABLES:

Timetables will be emailed to students’ HDSB email accounts by the end of today.

 

GUIDANCE INFO:

Reminder : College Equal Consideration deadline - February 1st, 2020  

If you have not completed your application to college, please ensure you do so prior to February 1st to ensure you have equal consideration.

Congratulations to MMR Alumni Renata Fast on her Win during the first ever Women’s 3 on 3 Canada vs USA Hockey Game last weekend.  

Fun Fact:  Renata was an honoured guest and speaker at MMR’s Athletic Banquet in June 2019!

NIGHT SCHOOL:  

Night School information is now available.  Students interested in taking a Night School course in semester 2 can visit their Guidance Google Classroom for further info and forms.  Guidance Google Classrooms


WINTER COAT DONATIONS WANTED!  

Please drop off any gently used, or new coats to the Donnell Insurance Coats For Kids Donation Box at the top of the stairs in the main foyer.  Last year, this initiative collected over 860 coats that went to children here in our Burlington community. Collections will be picked up on Dec. 16th.


March Break Trip

Senior Boys Basketball

Pathway Destination & Scholarship Workshops

As next steps from our Pathways Assembly, Guidance will be providing application workshops to help students apply for their post secondary destinations, and Scholarship sessions to provide information for scholarships, awards and bursary opportunities.

Students are asked to complete the following form to sign up for a workshop/session that works best with their schedules.

Post secondary visits will be starting at MMR and will be continuing until the December Holiday Break.  Students in grade 12 can come for lunch time sessions to hear from a variety of post secondary liaisons (Trades, Colleges and Universities) to gain a better sense of what options are available to them next year.

Bantam Boys Basketball

All grade 9 boys who are interested in improving their basketball skills are welcome to join the Bantam Boys Basketball team.  Practices start next week; Monday at lunch and Friday at 7am. Please contact Krista Reid if you have any questions.

Rambotics :

M.M. Robinson is preparing students for a new and innovative world. Our MM Rambotics Teachers and Mentors received an INSPIRE  award, June 5th, because they went above and beyond to support students in an area of high interest and high employment. These mentors work an additional 25-40 hours a week, directly with students, during the build season teaching, training and inspiring.  They show exemplary innovation, creativity, and motivation to help students problem solve and achieve monumental successes.

Gr. 9 Math EQAO:

Just a reminder that EQAO for our grade 9 math students will be writing onTuesday June 11 and Thursday June 13.

For both days June 11 and 13:

Grade 9 students who have a scheduled grade 9 math in period 1 or period 2 will all write starting at 8:25, once completed students will proceed to period 2 for their regular second period class.

Grade 9 students who have scheduled math in period 4 or period 5 will write EQAO at the start of period 4 and once completed will proceed to period 5 for their regular scheduled class.

All IEP students who require accommodations  will write EQAO on June 11 and 13 starting at 8:25. Mr. Trodd will be in contact with additional information about locations.


Ram Revue:

Next Friday, June 14th at 8:30am, MM Robinson staff and students will take a day to celebrate our school community.  Ram Revue is an LBP tradition that is continuing here at MMR, where we showcase our year of school wide successes, acknowledge student achievements and celebrate the many talents around the building.   Students and staff will be singing, dancing and even baton twirling! We know that our whole community would love to join us to witness the show, but due to space constraints we are limited to an audience of students only.  However, we will have a recording of the full show available after so friends and family can also share in celebrating the amazing things happening around our building. More details about this to come later.

PAR Update:

As part of ongoing communication regarding the implementation of the Burlington Secondary Program and Accommodation Review, please find the PAR Update #8 (May 2019).


Gr. 9 Math EQAO:

Athletics Banquet:

All athletes have the opportunity to attend this year’s athletic banquet on Wed. June 12th at 5:30pm. In order to reserve a spot for dinner athletes MUST pick up a ticket before June 5th. Athletic council members will be giving out tickets at lunch up until this date in the front foyer. Athletes who have missed this opportunity can pick up their ticket in the Phys. Ed office.


MMR Movie Night:

MMR is hosting a Movie Night on Tuesday, June 4th. Doors open at 6pm movies start at 6:30 pm; Pizza, popcorn and drinks will be available for purchase. $7/person or buy 4 tickets and get a free popcorn. Tickets can be purchased through School Cash Online or at the door. We will be showing 3 different movies at the same time. Choose to see 1  Now You See MeThe Greatest Showman, or Harry Potter. The money made from our movie night goes toward supporting Relay 4 Life. Can’t wait to see you there!

Grade 9 - 12 students can earn Community Service Hours for taking part in a the CCAH/Halton Regional Police Service Youth Leadership Workshop Series REGISTER TODAY (6 Community Service Hours for each event). Attend as many as you can.

Congrats:

Congratulations to Ivan, Teodor, Nathan, William, Linna, Gillian, Allison, Ian, Katie, Patrick, Rawan, and Stefanie for their outstanding performance at the Halton Math Contest Wednesday night.  

Ivan, Teodor and Nathan finished 11th/29 teams.  Allison, Katie and Stafanie finished 8th/32, competing against the top Math problem solvers in Halton.

Guidance Info:

On Thursday May 16th, MMR will be holding an event called Women In Skilled Trades in the LBP theatre during period 1.

Speakers will talk about their experiences, answer questions and talk about the different pathways they took. Both females and males are welcome to attend.

The Gould Family Scholarship Application is available now. This scholarship is worth up to $10000 and available to MMR students who complete the application, Impact Filter and have a minimum average of 75%.   Applications due to Ms. Rosa in Guidance by May 17.


SHSM News:

On Tuesday students from the Health &  Wellness SHSM and  students from the mentoring leadership class travelled to Schlegel Villages Retirement home to visit with residents and learn about different careers in the field.

Info: Our annual spring concert is among us! This year's theme Mission Music.  Come see spectacular performances from Senior jazz band, Junior jazz band, Senior Concert band Junior Concert band, Guitar Ensemble, Choir and much more!  We will also be reflecting on the year, paying respects to our Grade 12 graduating students.

Relay for Life

  • Cancer Fundraiser held at MM Robinson on May 10th from 1:45pm - 9:45pm

  • Students, Staff and Community Members join a team and pledge to Relay around the track for 8 hours. (one member of each team is required to be walking at all times)

  • Games, Food and Fun are guaranteed for the event

  • Register Online at www.relayforlife.ca/MMRobinson

  • $20 to register, with money going towards food and the luminary ceremony as well as to the total fundraising goal of $30000.

  • Donations and registration fee can be paid online at the relay for life website or on schoolcash

Our school is super proud of our Robotics team - 2200. They did very well at the World's Competition in Detroit, ending up 3rd out of 70 teams. They had the largest team and the most successful season in team history. The members of this team are an impressive group of individuals who work so well together and represent our school in such a positive way - through both their talent and humility!

Grad Breakfast

The Grade 12 Breakfast on May 1 was a wonderful celebration of the Class of 2019!  Students enjoyed a hot breakfast and received important information about prom, commencement, and next steps for all post-secondary pathways.  

Valedictorian candidates were voted upon at the conclusion of the breakfast.  Congratulations to Liam Doyle and Will Klingler who will serve as co-Valedictorians at this year’s June 6 Commencement.

Upcoming Dates in Music:

Musical:  The 25th Annual Spelling Bee is here! We’re bringing back the spelling bee and a musical!  Come support our wonderful Arts and Culture SHSM students!

Ever wanted to be in a musical and didn’t have the courage to do so? We are looking for audience members to come up and spell and be in the show. (No experience necessary)

May 2,3,4 @ 7PM and May 4th matinee at 2 pm.

$5 students/$10 adults

Spring Concert May 16th Music Department presents an evening of celebration of this year’s hard work from our jazz bands, concert bands, choir and music classes.

Tickets are $5  (7 pm in LBP Theater at MMR)

Commencement: All hands on deck-we need music students to sign up to perform at this year’s graduation ceremony and earn volunteer hours. See Mr. Rocco if you can help out. June 6th.

Upcoming Dates in Drama:

May 30th: Junior Arts Festival at 7pm in the LBP Community Theatre. Tickets are $5 at the door.

June 13: Arts Banquet. For all students in The Arts (music, visual art, dance and drama)  More information to come!

June 14th: Grade 11 Showcase. 7pm in the LBP Community Theatre. Tickets are $5 at the door.

Commencement Information:

  • A  limited number of additional tickets for  Commencement will become available for purchase as of 9 am on Monday, April 29 on School Cash Online  

  • Up to 2 additional tickets per grade 12 family can be purchased

  • A reminder that Commencement will take place at St. Volodymyr’s Cultural Centre at 5 pm on Thursday, June 6th

The Gould Family Scholarship Application is available now. This scholarship is worth up to $10000 and available to MMR students who complete the application, Impact Filter and have a minimum average of 75%.   Applications due to Ms. Rosa in Guidance by May 17.

*Important Prom Information*

Prom will take place on Thursday, May 23rd  at Le Dome Banquet Center- 1173 North Service Road, Oakville from 6pm-11pm.  Payment is available on School Cash Online - $75/person. Payment has been extended until Monday, May 6 at lunch.

Attention all students Volunteers needed:

Clarksdale Public School & Brant Hills Public School need our help.  Do you need volunteer hours or are you a former student. Brant Hills is holding their Carnival on Wednesday May 29th from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and need more volunteers.  Clarksdale is having their Fun Fair on Tuesday June 11th and need more volunteers for various activities from 5:00 pm until 8:30 pm. You do not have to volunteer all night and can volunteer for only 1 shift.  If you are interested in helping, please come to the guidance office to pick up a volunteer Sign up form.

Fundraisers @ MMR:

Relay for Life

  • Cancer Fundraiser held at MM Robinson on May 10th from 1:45pm - 9:45pm

  • Students, Staff and Community Members join a team and pledge to Relay around the track for 8 hours. (one member of each team is required to be walking at all times)

  • Games, Food and Fun are guaranteed for the event

  • Register Online at www.relayforlife.ca/MMRobinson

  • $20 to register, with money going towards food and the luminary ceremony as well as to the total fundraising goal of $30000.

  • Donations and registration fee can be paid online at the relay for life website or on schoolcash
